8th July

I'm going to have to get slicker at blog posts. Writing once a month leaves me posting a "round robin" type letter that you get at christmas telling you that young Timothy got a 1st at Oxbridge, which was nice (etc).
Blog early and blog often. We'll see

So here's this month's round robin/rant
It has been raining lots. Not every day and not all the time, but often enough to not bother planning to do anything out-doors - though I have splashed out on a fancy new gas bbq, just in case.

Among he obvious high points from the last month have been seeing the Olympic Torch breeze through Norfolk. As I write I'm watching an old geezer carry the torch in Huntingdon en route to Letch/Nidge and Luton. DG and I were treated to supper at Morston Hall last week - an amazing eatery serving food you usually can only dream of.
Watching Rosie sing in the school talent show on Friday was a heart stopping moment. She was great. I sneaked out after her performance but apparently some of the other children were very good too.
We've also been to The Royal Norfolk show - an excellent day out, a beer festival in Haisborough - well worth the visit, seen the occasional sunset down at our beach hut and managed the odd swim in the sea!

Granny came over for Sunday lunch the other day. She is going through her usual highs and lows. As long as she is sensible about what she eats, she should avoid getting the occasional awful chest infections. She is always desperate to be out side and always desperate for visitors - no change there then. I do feel under pressure to visit her though DG Graham and Billy all tell me to only go when it suits. Saying that, I plan to go this morning as the Potty Festival is on in Sheringham (Morris dancing (not me - never confused)) and then pick Rosie up from Brownie camp.

I have been having a lot of trouble with my stupid back. A 3rd professional has now told me to stop running around so I think I can retire from competitive sport that requires training shoes!

9 June 2012

Feels like I have been neglecting the Blogg recently so here's a brief recount of the comings and goings of the Bessinghamites since the last post.

1st up - mother. Poor old girl (I feel like I have to say that a lot) had another spell in the N&N with a list of  ailments. Happily back in Shezza now though she needs careful management at the moment. Fortunately the home has now got some really good staff and seem to be more concerned with care rather than profit these days.

Jenny has just got back from Barcelona (up the coast a bit) playing netball for one of the local rival High Schools. She is tanned and tired and had a great time. Jen has been full on with exams and revision recently so it was a very useful break.

Rosie is on her way to London today to see Matilda with her Nan. She has been really good lately, having to fit in around the rest of us. This half-term holiday was hijacked by the Jubilee - so there has been loads of things going on locally.

DG helped organise Bessingham's jubilee picnic on Monday - an excellent day getting to know folk in  the village. She has now started report writing - spent all day Thursday and Friday tapping away - right up till about 2am the other night (just in time to pick Jenny up from Wells/Spain)

I've been fighting a bad back - Dr says my running around days are over - I'll try and prove him wrong but it means no cricket this year. Got to get out on the bike soon in readiness for July 26th and 120 miles. Trouble is the bloomin weather is still not playing fair. Today it is blowing a gale and rainy and I was hoping to get a few hours in.

We have had a great Crab and Lobster festival in Cromer/Sheringham, a vintage car rally with about 250 cars, a wonderful day at the test match in Nottingham (was that summer?), jubilee parties in East Beckham and here and a lovely day on the Broads with Graham, Debbie and Jess.

Hopefully there will be some pictures uploaded here soon when I can get Picassa to work, otherwise go and look at my Flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/16311022@N07/

May 16

Still rubbish weather. What's going on???

A brief update on how mum is getting on...
Deb and I had a very productive meeting with the manager of the home yesterday. Lots of things highlighted that either need doing or are in hand. Everything seems to take time and money but, with mum in reasonable spirits at the moment, hopefully we can make her a little more comfy too. Hopefully she'll get some physio soon and a thorough eye test.

We have a French visitor at the moment. Neige (yes - snow!) has come over from the southern coast bit of Brittany on  a school exchange. Her English is about as good as Jenny's French - I'll say no more.

Decided not to get tickets for Wembley on Sunday. I know I'll regret that more and more as we get closer to kick-off but in truth it would be a very expensive day out. Having just renewed season tickets at Carrow Road, justifying another big outlay for another game was getting tricky.

I have been asked to play cricket all over the place this season - 2 teams at Aldborough are after me, Aston have suggested a game as has Graham. I also have an offer to play for Holkham - in front of the hall no less. However, I may have to leave my kit bag in the back of the cupboard this year as my back is telling me that cricket is out of the question right now (as is the weather). Since trapping a nerve on Jan 1st last year I have had spells where it has given me a lot of discomfort. Walking Hadrians Wall was no problem but since trying to get back to my fighting weight in January this year I have been suffering. Hopefully this years 120 mile bike ride shouldn't cause me any problems so I am now looking forwards to prepping myself for that challenge. I've been able to enjoy some more sedate sport down at my Trout lake recently - bagging a few beauties including a wee brown trout caught on a dry fly in the river.

Rosie had a lovely weekend with friend Dasiy coming to stay. The highlight was a party at Bewilderwood but I had a great afternoon with them in Cromer on Saturday

Oh and Nan's off next week

8th May

Wahay for Luton. Hope they don't blow the play-off final this year. Get back in the league and before you know it we'll be back up to the Championship where we belong.

Wahay for Norwich sticking it to Arsene Wenger! Super Grant Holt

Thanks to the Ware family for hosting us Hull's up in Skipton for the weekend. It was a brief visit but very enjoyable none the less
